Sewing plans for 2021

Phew! It’s been a while! I thought I’d revisit (and resurrect) my own blog, and start it all off by making plans for 2021. Sewing plans, that is. I have began to hone in on my own personal style, and curate a closet of clothes I feel comfortable wearing. I feel like I can now start to identify and make (or buy) the missing pieces. I have also been able to sew and make most of my “dream” creations (not clothes) by now, the things I wasn’t able to sew when i first started out in 2016. So this year I want to focus mostly on clothes!

First off; I want to make cropped, boxy tops. I have my eyes set on the Muna and Broad Torrens Box top, or something similar. I plan to layer these over high-waisted jeans or skirts. I already have the fabrics for a couple of tops, in a dreamy soft double gauze.

Next, I want to sew a pair of jeans! Jeans is like the holy grail. The Ames Jeans by Cashmerette will likely be the pattern I’m going for. While we’re on the subject of Cashmerette (I love that company!!), I also really want to sew the Upton dress. They just recently released a big expansion pack, which gives you endless variations!

In 2018 I made a list of my Make nine for the year. One dress that has continuously escaped me (I have been planning to make it ever since January 2018) is the Farrow dress, by Grainline Studio. I’m thinking some Essex linen would be a nice fabric for this, and also a colour blocked version would be great! Check out this version by Helen’s closet. Perfection! Three years on, it’s about time I made that pattern. Or is it? What bugs me is that the Farrow dress does not come in my size. I have checked the finished measurements of the dress, and know I will fit the largest size (because of lots of ease), but the pattern is not really drafted to include a body like mine. And do I really want to give my money to a company that doesn’t think my body is worth making patterns for? For reference, I have 52″ hips. The sizing stops at 47″.

I plan to make more clothes than this, but I do not have any set plans just yet!

Late 2019 I started knitting the Nurtured sweater, by Drea Renee Knits. I have only managed to finish both arms, so it’s not like I’ll finish the rest any time soon! I love the simple but distinct pattern, as well as the color! Hope to have it ready either this spring, or fall. It will be too warm for summer!

All the way back in 2018 I was part of a Quilting Bee, and received 10 beautiful blocks in my chosen colors and pattern. I made two blocks myself, for a total of twelve. I hope to finish this quilt this year! It is all pieced, and I am currently working on the backing (which is pieced from some favorite scrap fabric). I have the batting ready to go, so I’m close to the finish line! The pattern is by Arabesque Scissors, and is called Bunny Patch Pillow (link goes to her Etsy shop).

There you have it. A small glimpse of my plans for 2021. You know, if we survive.
